Creola M. Packer
OGDEN – Creola Minson Packer, 93, passed away peacefully Friday, September 12, 2008 in Ogden, Utah.
She was born September 7, 1915 in Paris, Idaho, to David and Hazel Law Minson. She was raised in Paris, then Brigham City where she graduated from Box Elder High School. She loved to play ball, dance, rollerskate and participate in drama, taking several leading rolls.
While living in Ogden, Creola married Clarence “Clair” H. Packer, Jr. on October 4, 1942. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. Three children were born to them: Steven, Rosalie, and Carol. They spent almost all of their married life in the Packer family home on 28th and Adams. Creola lived there for 64 years.
Creola worked for Southern Pacific Railroad in Ogden for 19 years.
She loved to bowl, and actively participated in leagues for many years, making lifelong friends. She was inducted into the Ogden Women’s Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 1983. Another hobby was gardening. She loved the time spent outside, watching plants grow, especially vegetables.
Always willing to help and serve, Creola held several positions in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her favorite was bringing Relief Society meetings to the women in the Adams Place retirement home. She lead the meetings faithfully for over ten years, working with special friends who taught lessons and brought music into the lives of the residents.
Creola loved her three children, 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, and she was dearly loved by all of them. Surviving are her son, Steve (Glenda) Packer, Ogden; and daughter Carol (Mike) Virgin, West Valley City.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her daughter Rosalie, and one great-grandson, Solomon Payne.
Her last two years were spent at Mountain Ridge Assisted Living in South Ogden. Many thanks to the caring staff there, from Specialty Nursing, Hospice for Utah, and the Skyline Care Center Branch. She appreciated every kind word and gentle touch.
Funeral services will be held Monday, September 15th at 11 a.m. at the Jefferson Center Ward Chapel, 27th Street and Jefferson Avenue.
