Cris B Hampson

October 7, 1955 — February 27, 2025

Cris B. Hampson, the beloved son of Kenneth W. and Carole B. Hampson, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 27, 2025, after heroically battling an unforgiving cancer for over a year.

Cris was born on October 7, 1955, in Ogden, Utah, and began what would be a lifetime full of adventure. He grew up in a loving family with two brothers, Craig and Keith, a very special ‘bonus’ brother Mike Close, and an adorable little sister, Carrie. Throughout his early years living on Madison Avenue, Cris, with his irresistible and charismatic personality, naturally gained many, many friends. Lifelong friends. He often recalled how they all ‘home-made’ their own skateboards, rode bikes until the streetlights came on, and when winter finally came, they would jump on their toboggans to race down their sleepy, little, snow packed street. The neighbors were probably all very skeptical at seeing those boys altogether, but they were all great kids.

During his time as a young boy, Cris had his eye set on a pretty, sweet neighbor, Gloria Jean Seaman, (or Jean as Cris would call her) who lived just across the street. Little did they know that the story that was being written for them had just begun. Unfortunately, Cris and the Hampson’s moved out of the neighborhood when he was 11 and Gloria was just 8 years old, but, that spark for Gloria never went away.

Cris attended Park View, Burch Creek, and Mar-Lon Hills Elementary Schools, South Jr. High, and Bonneville High School graduating with the class of 1973. Cris asked Gloria to Bonneville’s Christmas dance and from that point on, the two of them created a love story that they continued to write every single day for over 50 years together.

Cris was called to serve in the California Los Angeles Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. From May of 1975 until June of 1977, he honorably served that mission fulfilling his sacred calling to teach the people the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He taught them to find faith in Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ and to build and strengthen their testimony of the restored Gospel here on earth today. He touched the lives of so many while serving, even continuing to correspond with them after returning home. To torture his family, Cris extended his stay in California by two extra weeks, so that he could go to Disneyland. Thankfully, Gloria wrote Cris all throughout his mission and waited for him (even for those two extra weeks.)

And so, not long after returning home, Cris and Gloria became engaged and on April 6, 1978, surrounded by friends and family, they were married for time and all eternity in the Ogden Utah Temple. Their sacred union brought them two amazing sons, Derrick and Cory.

Both Derrick and Cory were the light of his life! Cris’s love for his sons was a steady guiding light through life. He was an amazing Dad who promised to protect and nurture. He left, for them, a legacy that will be passed down through generations, that life should be celebrated, every milestone, big or small. Cris would teach his sons valuable lessons, helping to shape their character and values. He had a love for them that knows no limits, truly, an extraordinary love. Cris was so proud of them and cherished every minute they had together.

Cris was well known for his strong work ethic and integrity in all the work he accomplished. Over the years, he has been employed by Ogden Golf and Country Club, Wilshire Theater, roofing for a private contractor, Amalgamated Sugar, Century 21 and ERA Real Estate, Chambers Music and Vending, and finally Pepsi-Cola. While at Pepsi, Cris began his work in the Service Department, he went on to delivery then to pre-sales until finding his niche right back where he started in the Service Department, eventually becoming the Manager. After 40 years of dedication and hard work, he retired in 2021. When going out to eat if Pepsi/Mountain Dew were not on the menu, he would give a little grimace then just ask for water… we were always happy to support that ‘NO OTHER SODA BRANDS EXISTED’, just for him.

For many years, Cris and his family enjoyed countless adventures. Cris was very much an outdoor activity enthusiast and taught his boys the very same, starting out young. Together, they all spent endless days in Jericho at the sand dunes, camping in their R.V., riding their 4-wheelers, and enjoying time with whoever was up for a weekend at ‘the dunes’. This usually included Craig, Keith or Mike, all the cousins as far as the eye could see, and many, many special friends, dedicated “Dune” friends. Oh, what memories they made! Not stopping at just 4-wheeling, Cris also loved motorcycles, water-skiing, tubing, hiking, snow-skiing, bowling, golfing, and kayaking. Being on the go was kind of his thing.

Both Cris and Gloria loved to travel, they were indeed world travelers. Indulging in local activities and scenery wherever they went, including more than 15 cruises. Some of the most memorable and favorite vacation spots were Israel, Japan, China, Cambodia, Thailand, Alaska, the U.S. East Coast, the Panama Canal, and of course, the Caribbean. Over the years, they met many strangers who would soon become lifelong friends and frequent travel buddies. They also enjoyed a very special LDS Church history tour with Cris’s sister Carrie and loved to attend Tuacahn with Gloria’s sister Pam and her husband Bill.

Cris had a pure love of Christ; he was strong in his faith and loved attending church. He loved his ward family. Cris had various church callings but his most beloved was that for the youth. He served as a Boy Scout Leader and in the Young Mens program. Teaching the young brethren and watching them grow was a special kind of joy for Cris. He thrilled at taking the youth on fun and exciting outings. His compassion, wit, and dedication made him an absolute favorite, a role he held with great affection. He spoke often of how much each and every one of those youths meant to him and how much he loved doing all he did with them.

Cris also loved his neighbors, he could be counted on to do just about anything for anybody at any time and he always had the tools, talent, and gadgets to do it.

There aren’t words yet created to fully and accurately describe just how magical Cris made life. Every single thing he did, he did with passion, with humor, with integrity, with excitement, and with love. His example of Christ like love and compassion went above and beyond. This world was absolutely a better place because of him.

How privileged we were to get to call him husband, father, son, grandpa, brother, nephew, brother-in-law, cousin, and friend.

Cris is survived by his loving wife and eternal companion, Gloria Jean Hampson; sons, Derrick and Cory Hampson; brother, Craig (Linda) Hampson; sister, Carrie Hampson Gresham; bonus brother, Mike (Sherron) Close; aunt, Irene Butler; sisters-in-law, Pam (Bill) Weinstock, Launa (Ben) Dickson, and DeAnn (Steve) McNair; brother-in-law, Mike (Polly) Seaman; mother-in-law, Faun H. Seaman; and six adoring grandchildren that he loved to dote on, Elias, Jaxon, Abigail, William, John, and Lily. “We love you Grandpa!”, also numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, all of which he truly cherished.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ken and Carole Hampson; brother, Keith Hampson; father-in-law, Douglas Blair Seaman Sr.; nephew, Jason R. Hampson; and brother-in-law, Douglas Blair Seaman Jr.

“Our limited perspective would be greatly increased if we could witness the reunion on the other side of the veil, when doors of death open to those returning home.” -President Russell M. Nelson.

Our dear Cris, rest now, your earthly mission is complete. We have been blessed by you, and we love you… Until we meet again.

The family would like to thank the Oncology Department, the Radiation Oncology Department, and the Cancer Infusion Center of Intermountain Health for all of their kindness and care of Cris during this time in his life.
