Dale Ballantyne

A Life Well Lived

On December 5, 2015, our father Dale Ballantyne returned to his heavenly home, there to be reunited with his sweetheart, family, friends and his Savior Jesus Christ.

Dad was born on April 18, 1931 in Richmond, Utah to Thomas Ballantyne and Beatrice Handy Ballantyne.  Dad was the oldest of six children Richard, Ruth, Robert, Jean and Donald.

He married Norma Jean Grange on April 4, 1953 in Provo, Utah.  That marriage was later sealed in the Logan Temple on February 14, 1963.

Dad and mom were the proud parents of six children:  Ken (Karen) Ballantyne,  Moab, UT; Kathy (David) Hales, Bloomington, IL; Gary (Cindy) Ballantyne, Bountiful, UT;  DeeAnn (Bruce) Probst, Kaysville, UT; Scott (Michelle) Ballantyne,  Layton, UT;  Steven (Julie) Ballantyne, Farmington, UT.    He is the grandfather to 26 grandchildren and 35 great grand children

Dad served his country in the United Stated Army from 1955 to 1961 after which he began his 40 year career at the Chevron Oil Refinery in North Salt Lake, Utah.

Dad faithfully served as a Family History Missionary in Salt Lake, as a temple worker in the Bountiful Temple, and many other callings in the church.

Dad enjoyed being in the outdoors whether it was planting his vegetable garden, camping or hunting. The highlight of his hunting came in 1987 when he drew a permit and bagged a buffalo in the Henry Mountains, earning him the nickname “buffalo grandpa” which has been passed down to some of the great grandchildren that were lucky enough to get to know him.

Dad also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, teaching them to plant rows of corn and beans, buying and feeding baby chicks in the spring, taking the time out of a busy day to share a mid-morning snack of cheese and crackers and sharing his simple made up recipes for “poor mans pizza” and “poor mans pie”.

Dad taught his children many lessons in life such as the value of work, being honest, the blessing of serving others and most importantly being respectful to his sweetheart.

Preceded in death by his sweetheart, Norma; parents Thomas and Beatrice Ballantyne; brother Richard Ballantyne; sister Ruth Gardner and grandson Brian Ballantyne.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 12, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Kaysville Mortuary, 400 North Main.  Friends may visit family Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.

Interment, Syracuse City Cemetery.

The children of Dale respectfully ask that in lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Alzheimers Association.
