Amos Dale Johnson passed away at age 101 on May 26, 2023 in Payson, Utah. He was born May 20, 1922 in Richmond, Utah.
He was the seventh child of Frans Gustave Johnson and Elna Eugenia Pearson.
Dale graduated from High School in Richmond, then attended Brigham Young University on a music scholarship. He joined the Army Reserve Corp allowing him to finish his second year at BYU before leaving for WWII.
He joined the 65th Infantry Division Band, playing oboe and violin. He served as an MP in France, Germany and Austria. After returning home from the war, Dale continued at BYU, where he met Luana May Collins and they married August 14, 1947 in the Salt Lake Temple.
After graduating BYU, Dale taught music in the Alpine School District in Orem, Utah. The family then moved to Moses Lake, Washington, where Dale taught as a High School music teacher until he was asked to organize a music department for the Spokane Washington Community College.
After retiring, Dale and Luana moved to Chattaroy, Washington where they served as Service Missionaries in the Spokane Welfare Employment District. Leaving Washington in 1993, Dale and Luana moved to Ogden, Utah. After Luana passed away in 2006, Dale moved to American Fork, Utah. In February 2022, Dale made his last move to the Central Utah Veterans Home in Payson, Utah.
Dale and Luana had four children: Luan Child (Andrew) Clarkston, Washington; Scott Collins Johnson (Kelly) American Fork, Utah; Janette Hemingway (Randy) West Jordan, Utah; and Paul Collins Johnson (Susie) Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Dale and Luana have 23 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday June 3, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lindquist Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington, Ogden, Utah. Friends may visit the family 9:30 to 10:30 prior to services. Interment, Ogden City Cemetery, where full military honors will be accorded by the Brigham City Honor Guard.
