Dale Kano

On May 30, 2014 Dale, the last of the Kano elders, was reunited with his siblings Ray, Russell, Kayzo, George and LaRene and parents Banshichi and Ito (Nomura) Kano.  He was born June 3, 1930 in Ogden, UT.  In the early 1930’s his family moved to Santa Maria, CA to farm.  At the age of nine  Dale and his sister, LaRene, attended school for two years in Japan.  They returned home shortly before the war.  Upon declaration of war against Japan, the Kano family with the assistance of close Syracuse friends relocated to Syracuse, UT.  He graduated from Davis High School and then served in the U.S. Army for two years.

Upon returning to Syracuse he worked the farm with his family.  His family sold the famous “Kano’s corn” and other vegetables to local markets. During the winter months he, his brother, George, and brother-in-law, Joe Yamashita, chick sexed chickens in Minnesota.  In 1975 he established the Oriental Market in Roy, UT with his sister-in-law Fusa Kano and nephew Lyman Kano.  He opened another successful business, Kano Nursery in Syracuse, thanks to the assistance of close family members, especially Aileen, Sachie, Fusa, and LaRene.

After retirement he and Jane developed a special bond with many friends and employees at the Peppermill in Wendover.  They became a favorite at this casino by tantalizing them with Krispy Crème donuts.  Last year on July 1 st he and Jane celebrated their 50 th wedding anniversary at Peppermill.

He leaves behind his lovely wife, Jane, sister-in-laws, Aileen Shizuko and Sachie and countless nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings and in-laws.

He will be remembered for his generosity and humor.

The family wants to express deep appreciation for the loving care provided by Chancellor Gardens employees, especially Tammy and Sallie.  To the Community Nursing Services Hospice of Layton for their excellent services.  A special thank you to Lauren Kano for her assistance in providing extra ordinary care to Dale.

His wish was to be cremated and he requested no service.

Arrangements entrusted to Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary.
