Dale Gibbons Powell, 88, passed away Monday, March 11, 2013 at Hospice of the Valley. He was a resident of Farmington, Utah and Mesa, Arizona. He was born on July 23, 1924 in Upton, Utah the son of Wilbur Morgan and Bertha Lucile Gibbons Powell. He graduated from North Summit High in Coalville, UT and joined the U.S. Air Force in 1942. He married Enid Robson on January 29, 1945 in SLC, UT. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They had four children and were later divorced. Dale married Elizabeth Kopso September 16, 1977 and they were sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

Dale was an active member of the LDS Church and was noted as an outstanding home teacher for his dedication and service. He also served two times as a counselor to the branch president in various states with one being in England, and he also served as Stake Clerk, and assisted with his wife Beth, with the full-time missionaries in baptismal services for converts in Mesa Boulder Creek Stake.

He had an active military career and was stationed in England during WWII. Dale was a member of the 95th Bomb Group, 336th Squadron. He was a Ball Turret Gunner on the B-17 and his plane was called the Dry Run. He flew 35 missions over France and Germany and participated in missions over Normandy on D-Day. He also served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He retired after 30 years from HAFB Layton, UT with the rank of Chief Master Sergeant.

He also worked at Syro Steel in Centerville, UT for 17 years as a highway guardrail salesman.

Dale enjoyed fishing, bowling, square dancing, and traveling all with his loving wife Beth.

Surviving are his loving wife of 35 years Elizabeth Powell, one brother Gene Powell, Midvale, UT, two sisters, Rhea (Norman) Law, Kuna, ID, Bernice (Vernon) Bingham, Mesa, AZ, two daughters, Vorelle (Stephen) Sill, Layton, UT, currently serving in the London, England Mission; and Andrea (Gregg) Byrum, Clearfield, UT; one step-daughter, Louise (John) Kuran, Norwalk, CT; nine grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Roy Powell, Leo Powell, and two sons Travis Powell and Clifford Powell.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 16, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends may visit family Saturday from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist''s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
