Dallas Zollinger

Dallas Zollinger 1913 – 2008 OGDEN – Dallas Zollinger passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 24, 2008. He was born August 6, 1913 to William and Bertha Zollinger in Providence, Utah. Dallas married Margaret Hovey on November 10, 1937 in the Logan LDS Temple. They raised two daughters. He attended schools in Cache County and graduated from the Utah State Agriculture College majoring in electronics and art. Later he obtained his teaching certificate and taught school in Salt Lake City, Idaho Falls, and Auburn, Washington. He had a long teaching career, spending thirty years at the Auburn High School teaching shop, electronics, mechanical drawing, graphic arts and journalism. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and a devoted servant of our Lord Jesus Christ. He served as the Auburn Branch president twice and Bishop of the Auburn Ward twice. He and his wife Margaret served as stake missionaries, and were called to serve in the Alabama, Birmingham Mission laboring in Fayetteville, Tennessee. He served as a temple worker and sealer in the Seattle Temple and in the Ogden Temple. He was called as a Patriarch and served for many years. His hobbies included wood working, metal craft, photography, offset printing and gardening. He was always planning his next invention or project. In 1941 he designed and built an auto mower powered by a 1927 Chevrolet motor. He described the mower as “cutting hay or telephone poles along with the best machinery on the market in 1941.” He loved to share the fruits of his labors from his garden as well as from his other hobbies. Dallas was active in scouting and received his Silver Palm award and served off and on as a scout leader from 1933 to 1953. He is survived by his wife, Margaret, and two daughters, Patsy (Nile) Griffin, Ogden; Annette (Leavitt) Grover, Kennewick, WA. He has nine grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. Also surviving is his brother Chet (Mary) Zollinger of Logan. Preceding him in death were his sons, Richard Dallas, Dallas, and Lawrence Dallas. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Washington Terrace 10th Ward Chapel, 125 East 5350 South, with Bishop Rick Wade officiating. Friends may call at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday at the Ward Chapel 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Interment, Providence, Utah Cemetery.
