Daniel Lanis Jacobsen
Bountiful a" Beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Daniel Lanis Jacobsen, 92, passed peacefully from this earth to rejoin with many loved ones in the Spirit World. Born to Elias Jacobsen and Florence Leaker Jacobsen on Oct. 4, 1916. Daniel grew up in Salt Lake City and graduated from West High School. At age 17 he joined the Navy and served on the USS Saratoga until 1937.
Soon after his discharge Daniel began dating the love of his life, Ilah Allgood. On May 8, 1941, while on a double date with cousins, they decided to elope to the Farmington Courthouse and get married. Dan and Ilah solemnized their union a month later in the Salt Lake Temple on June 11, 1941. Their family would be blessed with four sons. Dan embarked on a lifetime career as an engineer for the Union Pacific Railroad. Dan and Ilah lived in Salt Lake City until settling in Bountiful in 1957.
Dan was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He faithfully filled many callings including local missionary service, Sunday School teacher, and High Priest Group counselor. From Nov. 1981 to April 1983 Dan and Ilah served together in the Philippines Baguio Mission. Dan was a great student of the scriptures and especially loved the lessons from the Old Testament. His family is grateful for his example of enduring faithful to the end.
Daniel is survived by his wife Ilah; sons Daniel E. (Debbie) Jacobsen, Crayle E. Jacobsen, Neil E. (Karen) Jacobsen; daughter-in-law Sherrie (Bud) Gillett; brothers Melvin (Freida) Jacobsen, Frank Jacobsen; 15 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by son Jerry D. Jacobsen; parents; sisters Nina Backman, Ruth Hill; and brothers Ferdinand Jacobsen, Harold Jacobsen.
The family would like to thank the staff of Avalon Care Center for their loving service and for adopting Grandpa Dan and Grandma Ilah into their hearts.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 27, 2009 at the Bountiful 45th Ward Chapel, 1950 S. Orchard Dr. Friends may call Sunday, July 26, 2009, 6-8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E. and Monday 9:30-10:30 at the church prior to the services. Interment at Bountiful City Cemetery.
