Daniel Rolyn Moffet
November 27, 1937 ~ March 25, 2018
Daniel Rolyn Moffet, 80, passed away on Sunday, March 25, 2018 at his North Ogden home. The youngest of five children, Dan was born November 27, 1937 in Ottumwa, Iowa to Lemuel O. and Hazel Lorraine Lewis Moffet. He was raised by his father and step-mother, Helen Morrison after his mother passed away when he was two years old.
Raised and schooled in Ottumwa, Iowa Dan graduated from Ottumwa High School, Class of 1956. Dan was active in the ROTC during high school and enlisted in the United States Air Force shortly after graduation. The Korean War had finished in the summer one year earlier, and Dan was determined to serve his country. A Vietnam Veteran, he retired as a Master Sergeant in 1984 after 29 ½ years of continuous service to our nation. As a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars he would continue his service to veterans as a faithful member of the Funeral Honor Guard Team. Dan loved our country, he loved his fellow veterans, and he had a passion for service.
On November 17, 1965 Dan married his sweetheart, Anne Juanita Barker in Wichita Falls, Texas. They made a good team and she was very supportive of his career as an Air Force aircraft mechanic. They raised their daughter, Pamela together and eventually settled in the Ogden area. After his military retirement Dan pursued his civilian career in Aerospace, retiring for a second time in 1994. He then drove for Handi-trans until 2004. He was deeply saddened at Anne’s passing on September 16, 2001, just five days after the attack on the Twin Towers.
On August 17, 2002, Dan married Sandra Sheffield Carlson. She has been a loving and faithful companion to him. They enjoyed many years of travel and companionship.
Dan will be remembered for his kind heart, wicked sense of humor, loyalty, and love of his family. He enjoyed doing puzzles, collecting coins, stamps, clocks, airplanes, and playing cards (especially Uno and Cribbage) with his loved ones.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Moffet, North Ogden; daughter, Pamela (Ronald Ferris) Moffet Ferris, San Marcos, CA; granddaughter, Athena Wagner, San Diego, CA; siblings, Barbara North, Midland, TX, Edwin Moffet, Junction City, OR, Alvin (Kathy) Moffet, Boone, IA, Eva Rutherford, Boone, IA; and by his step-daughters, Leisa Carlson, Carolyn (Jeff) Hollingsworth; his step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents and first wife Anne, by whom he will be laid to rest.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the Huntsville City Cemetery, 100 South 6600 East, where military honors will be accorded by the Hill Air Force Base Honor Guard and Dan’s beloved fellow VFW Post 1481 members. Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
