D’Anne Estelle Chapman

1932-2020

There has been great rejoicing in Heaven as one of His choice and valiant souls, D’Anne Estelle Chapman, was reunited with her parents, two brothers and other beloved family members.  D’Anne passed away on the evening of December 26, 2020 at her son’s home in Bountiful, Utah.

D’Anne (Deloris Ann) was born May 5, 1932 to Maxine Brenneman and Ward James Estelle. Preceded in death by her parents and by her husband Richard Chapman, siblings Wayne and Walter Estelle and survived by Walter’s wife Marlene and her brother Jim and his wife Marilyn.

She is also survived by her sons Kyle and Andy Larsen (Sheree) and grandchildren Heather Sorensen (Justin), Vanessa Wilson (Brett), Matthew Larsen, Rebekah Aldrich (Alex) and Cortney Saunders (Sam). “Grandma Dee” is also survived by 19 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and members of the Chapman family that loved her dearly.

D’Anne graduated from San Juan High School and Sacramento State University with a degree in education.  She taught elementary school for a few years, before staying at home to care for her family.  She also worked for the Presbyterian Church for many years in several capacities.

She followed the Savior’s example of caring about people first and foremost.  She was exceptionally talented at making others feel important, special and loved.  She led a life rich in friends and family and we are so grateful for those who touched her life and were touched by her.

She marveled at the world around her, she loved to learn about flowers, birds and plants.  She is one of the few people we have known who enjoyed driving through Northern Nevada genuinely appreciating the landscape.  She studied geology to satisfy her curiosity about the beauty of the earth that she loved to admire.

She loved to teach as that was her first career.  Her grandchildren have fond memories of trips to Art Museums; playing games with maps, where they were rewarded with coins as they found cities and other landmarks; taking walks with her and learning about the history of what they were seeing.

She also loved to tell stories about her childhood.  Even though I know there were some challenging times, when she told stories they always made us laugh.  She told stories about the events and activities with her brothers.  She was so close to them and loved them with all of her heart.

While D’Anne’s temporal circumstances may not have been what some would consider easy, her primary focus was always on the welfare of others. This faith filled lifestyle, enabled her to be content and happy.

There are so many people that have been a positive influence in her life. We are grateful for the following and so many more that have been so special to her. Her neighbors in Sacramento, West Sacramento, Brookings, Bountiful and Salt Lake City.  The many good friends at work, especially those at the Synod of the Pacific office In Sacramento who gave her the best retirement gift ever, a trip to Chicago to watch the Cubs play.  The fellow servants of the Lord that she worshipped with through the years, and most recently at First Presbyterian Church.  How she loved and served the congregation there and how they loved and served her.  Special thanks to her dear friends at Hamilton Place over the past few years whose dedicate service allowed her to remain living independently.  We are also grateful for her friends at Suncrest Hospice who supported her and us during the last few days of her life.

Due to community restrictions, we are planning a family only graveside service, Saturday, January 2, 2021 at 12:00.  The service will be at Bountiful City Cemetery, assisted by Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary and conducted by Pastor Chris Myers-Tegeder, from the First Presbyterian Church.  Later in 2021, we will have a celebration of D’Anne’s life which will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Salt Lake City.

As a tribute to her life and love we would invite you to reach out to someone you know who is in need of a friend, a kind gesture, a smile or a conversation that will lift them and help them feel welcome and important.  My mother truly believed and understood that we are all children of our Heavenly Father and deserve to feel welcome and understood as such.
