Darlene Bitton Farr

6/10/1928 ~ 1/20/2014

Ogden – Darlene Bitton Farr passed away on January 20, 2014, surrounded by her family.  She was born on June 10, 1928 in Ogden to Kenneth and Ethel Bitton.  A lifelong Ogden resident, she graduated from Ogden High School in 1946 and married her high school sweetheart, Vern Farr on September 11, 1950 in the Salt Lake Temple.  She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Malan’s Peak Ward.

Darlene leaves behind an incredible legacy of family, kindness, and generosity.  She was affectionately known as “Grandma Dar” to many outside of her immediate family.  In addition to her ability to make many people feel loved, she was talented with needlework and many of her pieces were given to others.  Darlene had an irreverent sense of humor and an infectious and distinct laugh, which she shared with her husband over the course of their 63 year marriage.  Vern and Darlene traveled the world together, with their favorite destinations being Sun Valley, Idaho and Maui, Hawaii.  The entire Farr family is very grateful for the fond memories formed in these locations.

Darlene was actively involved in the Ogden community.  She was a member of the Junior League of Ogden and was a finalist in the “Miss Weber College” pageant.  Darlene also had a special fondness and talent for loving rambunctious children.  She was the only woman to endure teaching the infamous 11 year old Blazer Primary Class.  Darlene and Vern were members of Study Group which they attended for 45 years.  Darlene also loved going to Club with her girlfriends and donating to every person and cause that she could.

Darlene is survived by her five children, Gail (Scott) Williams, Dirk (Pam) Farr, Brad (Robin) Farr, Jill Farr and Joye (Todd) Petersen, and her thirteen grandchildren, Emily, Daniel, Blake, Erica, Carly, Ben, Matthew, Carrie, Brandon, Andrea, Lauren, Michael, and Hunter; one great-grandchild, Xan and two more on the way.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Dean Bitton, and sister, Nedra Massey.

Special thanks go to her husband, Vern for his job as caretaker in her final years.  He cared for her with love and kindness and made sure she got her fill of Farr’s Ice Cream.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at 11 a.m. Malan’s Peak Ward, 1643 26th St.  Friends may visit with family on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.  and Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.

Interment, Ogden City Cemetery.
