KAYSVILLE – Darlene, loving mother, sister and grandma passed away peacefully on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 11, 2014 surrounded by her family from cancer.

Darlene was born on May 24, 1932 to LeLand and Nellie DeGroot Hawkins in Ogden, Utah.  She attended schools in Ogden and graduated from Weber High School in 1950.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Darlene married Harvey Lee Garrett on September 6, 1952 in Ogden, Utah.  She lived in Logan, Utah from 1952 to 1968 until she moved to Kaysville where she resided until her passing.  Together they raised three children, Ryan, Jill and Ross. She was a great mother, wife and grandmother, no one could have asked for anything more.

Darlene worked at IRS for 20 years where she made many lasting friendships. 

Darlene was an excellent cook, seamstress and excelled in bowling where she made many lasting friendships.  She enjoyed playing cards with her Bridge ladies who she loved dearly.  She never missed one of her kids or grandkids ball games, soccer or Rodeo events.  She enjoyed watching the Utah Jazz and Utah State sporting events, “Go Aggies.”

She is survived by her son, Ryan (Monica), Kaysville; Ross (LeiAnn), Layton; sister, Norma (Doug) Irons, St. George; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Lee Garrett, daughter Jill, parents and brother, Darrell Hawkins.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 16, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Kaysville Mortuary, 400 No. Main.  Friends may visit family Thursday from to 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.  Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery, 500 E. Crestwood Road.
