Born as Darlene Tacconi on September 26, 1931, in Dallas, Texas, the daughter of Carl Pedersen and Letha O. Hamberlin passed away on July 28, 2024.
She attended Ogden High School, graduating in 1949. She then entered nurses training at St. Benedict’s Hospital. She did not complete nurses training because she married James D. Erz. Darlene and James were the parents of six children with three surviving daughters, Cara Webb, Denice (Terry) Carver and Sheila (Dennis) Woodward.
Also surviving are five grandchildren. Jennifer (Jason) Melling, Erica (Paul-deceased) Petrucci, Amy (Leon) Noel, Jonathan (Stacie) Carver and Jean-Paul (Shylah) Poirier. Darlene had 2 brothers, Bill K. Bender of Reno, Nevada and an adopted brother, Pete Tacconi Jr. Darlene has 12 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Darlene enjoyed people. Her family was the utmost joy in her life, almost always foremost in her thoughts. She loved life, living every moment to its fullest. She appreciated the beauty of this world and loved all of God’s creations, especially animals. She was always finding a reason to laugh and smile no matter what adversity she was facing. She will be greatly missed.
Darlene bowled, golfed and belonged to a MahJongg group. Throughout the years she belonged to several organizations, The Does, The Eagle Aux, Epsilon Sigma Alpha to name a few. After her divorce from James Erz, she lived at South Pointe Condos where she served as Treasurer on the board for many years. Her neighbors and friends were a great source of comfort to her. Music and flowers were important in her life. Her favorite song, “The Dance” by Garth Brooks quotes “when one door closes and one more opens, promise me that you will give faith a fighting chance; when you get the chance to sit it out or dance, I hope you dance” We know she is dancing.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to nurse Darlene “Dee” Crowton and all the other nurses for their kind and compassionate care. Also, our gratitude to Bill and Patti Odell for their friendship to Darlene and everything they did for her.
