Darlene Sessions Wood, 87, of Layton, Utah, passed away in her home on October 20, 2023 of a lingering illness.
She was born November 6, 1935 in Clearfield, Utah to William James Sessions and Zelpha Hanna Stokes. She was the youngest of their eight children and with them worked on the family farm and tending to stock. She attended and graduated from Davis High School.
While participating in activities with friends she was introduced to a young Airman from West Virginia named Woodrow (Woody) T. Wood. The Sessions family opened their home to Woody and the two were married a couple of years later on April 30, 1954. Their marriage was later
solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.
Soon after marriage the couple moved to San Antonio, Texas where Woody was stationed at Kelly AFB. After Woody was discharged from the Air Force, he re-enlisted in the Air Force Reserve and was stationed at Hill AFB. They moved to Layton, where their two daughters were
born and they purchased their home on Francis Avenue.
Transfers with the Air Force necessitated moves to Petaluma, California (Hamilton AFB) and Yucaipa, California (March AFB). It was in California that Darlene developed her management skills beginning as the manager of a fabric store in Petaluma and then running a very busy
ARCO petroleum franchise for the owner of two locations in Yucaipa and Banning California.
They both retired in 1988 and moved back to their home on Francis Avenue and spent their years remodeling and making improvements to their property and enjoying visits from children, grandchildren and lately great-grandchildren.
We will all miss her feisty one-liners and reassurances of her unending love. We love her dearly.
Darlene was proceeded in death by her siblings Royal C. Sessions, LaVar Sessions, Wanda Taylor, Marjorie Rawson, Myron Sessions, Theral Sessions, and Verla Goodwin. She is survived by her husband Woody, children Cheryl (Sherri) Ann Wood (Layton), Sandra Sue Wood
(Checketts) (Boise, Idaho), three grandchildren (Ian Checketts, Lauren Checketts (Warne) Hannah Checketts (Roothoff), and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday October 28, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at the Summerfield Ward Chapel, 60 West Gordon Ave, Layton Utah. Friends may visit with family Saturday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
