Darlene White

August 14, 1937 — September 4, 2024

Hooper

Darlene White, 87, passed away quietly in her sleep at 9:30 pm Wednesday September 4, 2024, surrounded by several in her family.

She was born August 14, 1937, in Holladay, Utah to William Preston Bowles and Stella Dean Templeman. She graduated from Olympus High School in 1955, attended Brigham Young University for one year where she learned shorthand and typing, and worked briefly for an insurance company in Salt Lake City.

On April 4, 1957, Darlene married Edward Alfred White in the Salt Lake City Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Together they lived in Utah, Virginia, Kansas, Washington and California. Edward passed away on December 3, 2017.

Through the years Darlene held part-time jobs including employment at Kencraft Candy, a florist shop, and a nursing home.

Darlene along with her sister, Shirley (deceased 2021) sang and performed with a traveling group of women, Just Friends.

Darlene was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in many capacities and callings including Ward Chorister, Primary Chorister, Young Women President, and Relief Society President. In their senior years she and Ed served together as Temple Workers in the Baptistry, leaders in a Nursing Home Branch, and Senior Missionaries in a Church Employment Office.

She loved music, dancing, singing, animals, and being outdoors. She was kind to everyone and had gifts for sympathy and understanding, often befriending those in need. She was also strong-willed and determined to have her way when something was important to her. She was witty and fun-loving, liked top quality clothing and driving sporty cars that rumbled with the sound of a race car.

Darlene is survived by four daughters, Cindy Rae, Julie Lynn (Kenneth Nichols), Tracy DeAnn (Kent Kummer) and Kristene Sue (Stephen Buhler), 17 grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren.
