Darlene A. Wood
Oct. 13, 1938 – Oct. 11, 2017
OGDEN—Darlene A Wood, 78, passed away Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at Ogden Regional Hospital. “Darling Dar” was born on October 13, 1938 in Ogden, UT the daughter of John & Hazel Alexander. Darlene was raised and educated in Ogden where she graduated from Ben Lomond in 1956.
On January 10, 1958 she married our Father, Larry Wood in Elko, NV. Although they later divorced, they continued to love and cherish their friendship. Mom worked most of her life but excelled as a Cosmetologist and owned her own salon for many years. Later in her career, she served as a Branch Office Manager with Edward Jones and continued working, on call, right up to her passing. Her amazing work ethic is one of her greatest character traits and appreciated by so many.
Mom has so many lifelong friends who have acknowledged her generous nature, loving spirit, her fun and caring attitude that served as a bright spot for all. She was loyal, a true friend and more importantly, “just a hug and smile from Dar would make you feel better”. In 1957, she began meeting with her schoolmates, affectionately known as the “Ben Lomond Club Girls” that has continued 60 years.
Mom was avid golfer and a member of The Barn Ladies Golf Association serving in various positions, including President. Mom loved to play cards and meet frequently with her friends that she loved and adored. She looked forward to traveling with her friends on “Girl Trips” and recently returned from playing golf in Mesquite.
Mom is loved and cherished by her family and her presence along with her influence will be extremely missed. Mom was a great Mother and teacher. She was an even better Grandmother who loved to spend time doing fun things with her grandchildren. She’s an amazing person who gave freely of her time, talents and resources. Julie and Greg want to give thanks to their spouses for all the love and support during this difficult and sudden passing of our mother.
The family give thanks to the caring and kind medical professionals at Ogden Regional. We would also like to give special thanks to her dear friend, Jon Fister. Lastly, we would like to thank her wonderful friends for their love and support. These amazing groups, the multitude of those we’re unable to list, have been so kind, so considerate and have shared with us so many wonderful memories. Thank you.
She is survived by daughter, Julie (Bart) Thompson, and son, Greg (Becki) Wood, nine loving grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Jackie Garner & Colleen Read and her brothers, John & David Alexander. She was preceded in death by our father, her parents and one wonderful sister Chris.
A celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2017, 11am at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N Fairfield Rd, Layton. Friends and family may gather at 9:30am to greet the family prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Weber State Women’s Golf Program in honor of our mother, “Darling Dar” at: Weber State University, Attn: Jerry Graybeal, 3870 Stadium Way Ogden UT 84408.
Happiness is not in our circumstances, but in ourselves. It is not something we see, like a rainbow, or feel, like the heat of the fire. Happiness is something we are. - John B. Sheerin
