Lester Darol Christensen passed away on December 24, 2024 in his much-loved winter cottage in St. George, Utah.
Darol was born on March 31, 1936 to Lester Lorenzo Christensen and Iris Lulu Duke Christensen in Brigham City, Utah. He grew up in Ogden and graduated from Weber High School in 1954.
Darol served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Western States Mission from 1959 to 1961. Darol met Marjorie [Marge] Stock soon after returning from his mission, and they married on March 22, 1962 in the Salt Lake temple. They are the parents of three children: Cheryl, Craig, and Charlene.
Darol studied electronics at Weltech College, serving as class president during his senior year and graduating in 1963. He began his career in computer technology with Burroughs Corporation when computers were in their infancy. He later went to work for Philips Medical Systems as a CT/MRI specialist installing and maintaining CT and MRI scanners, something he loved doing and did well. Soon after his official retirement, Darol accepted an invitation to become an independent consultant for Philips, and he worked, semi-retired, in that capacity for several more years.
Darol lost Marge to pulmonary fibrosis in 2009. He kept busy for the next few years after her passing by completing the restoration of a 1939 Chevy coupe, a project he had begun many years earlier. After the work was completed, he was often seen sitting next to his beautifully rebuilt blue Chevy at local car shows.
Darol served as a service missionary from 2014 to 2015, working in the “camera shop” at the Church Office Building. There, he set up or repaired camera and computer systems and shipped them worldwide for use by other missionaries in collecting and preserving records for use in family history work.
Darol bought his St. George cottage before completing the service mission because it was just too good a deal to pass up. After release from the mission, Darol began spending his winter months in beautiful southern Utah, exploring historic sites and state and national parks.
Darol is survived by two of his children, Cheryl and Craig (Bev). He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marge, his daughter Charlene (Wayne) Hankammer, and his brother George Robert [Bob] (Margie).
