Darrell Edward Jefferson

February 6, 1941 ~ July 31, 2018

Darrell Edward Jefferson, 77, of Henefer, Utah passed away on July 31, 2018 after a short and courageous battle with cancer. An only child, Darrell was born on February 6, 1941 to Edward Oscar and Virginia Alieen Peavey Jefferson in Oakland, CA where he was raised and schooled. He graduated from San Leandro High School and later with an Bachelors Degree in Recreation Management from California State College in Hayward.

During the Vietnam War, Darrell enlisted in the Air National Guard as a gate guard and served honorably.

He met Marie Hazel Healey at an LDS fireside in Sacramento, CA and after courting the couple was married on October 16, 1971 in the Oakland CA LDS Temple. They lived for a time in San Diego, San Ramon, and then settled in Utah, where they lived in South Jordan, Pleasant View, and most recently Henefer.

Darrell had a long and successful career as an Air Traffic Controller for the Federal Aviation Administration in both California and Utah, retiring in 2003 and then contracting and consulting for Cornerstone Aviation until very recently. A trained pilot, he also taught ground school for Cornerstone students. Darrell also was a referee at the high school level in California and later in Utah – it was his passion. Anything aviation or sports related was interesting to him. Darrell loved and admired people, enjoyed his family, and was always looking for the best deal. He was an avid and generous contributor to religious, social and community organizations. His favorite callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints were as a Boy Scout Leader and Gospel Doctrine Teacher.

Darrell is survived by his beloved wife, Marie H. Jefferson; and is the loving father of children, Tara Jefferson, Henefer; Loren (Jennifer) Jefferson, Fayetteville, NC; Brent Jefferson, Ogden; Shauna (Dallas) Dotter, Oakland, CA; and Troy Jefferson, Henefer; three grandchildren, Alex Udink, Megan Webb, and Olivia Jefferson; and his daughter-in-law, Stephanie Jefferson.
