Darrell Kent Johnson

December 8, 1942 — November 1, 2024

Darrell Kent Johnson passed away on November 1, 2024, at his home in Syracuse, Utah, of renal failure. Believe it or not, it wasn’t his heart that took him.

Darrell was born on December 8, 1942, at the old Thomas D. Dee Memorial Hospital, in Ogden Utah, to Athleen Foulger and Ralph Grange Johnson Jr.

He attended schools in Clearfield and Kaysville, graduating from Davis High School.

Darrell served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Central Atlantic States Mission. After his mission, he married Judy Ann Egan on July 9, 1964, in the Salt Lake Temple.

Darrell was an electrician by trade, but worked at Valley Nursery, Grand Central, and as a Police Officer for Clearfield City, in his younger years. He worked for his dad as an electrician, then started his own business, Darrell Johnson Electric.

In 1989 when the economy changed, he left Syracuse and worked for Yeargin Company. Within Yeargin he worked in Cedar City, Indiana, Colorado, Texas, and California. While in California he was offered a job by Amgen Pharmaceutical, helping build Research Facilities.

Darrell was active in the LDS Church and served in many capacities. His favorite was working with the youth, especially scouts. He served in the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. Many boys told him they earned their Eagle Scout Award, as a result of experiences with him as an 11-year-old Scout. He also served in BSA District Positions for the Trapper Trails Council.

Darrell enjoyed wood working, traveling, playing golf, making candy and fudge at Christmas, shopping, decorating his yard with his “blow-ups” for all the holidays, loving on his grandchildren and great grandchildren, spending time with family, decorative stickers and finding the perfect “musical cards” for all the birthdays. He loved taping gifts, boxes, etc. shut with as much tape as he could use.

He is survived by his children, Dawn (Mark) LaFleur; Troy (Heather); Shalece (Matthew) DeRemer; Adam (Jessica). Grandchildren; Cameron, Jessica, Austin, Jeremy (Addie), Braxton (Jaycie) LaFleur, Christopher (Rebekah), Ashley, Cassidy, Jacob Johnson, Garrett, Ty, Jaycee, Wyatt DeRemer, Juan and Janell Gomez, Olivia, Alyssa, Adam Jr, Ashton Johnson, great-grandchildren; Dylan, Cody Johnson. We would like to thank Applegate Home Health and Hospice for their loving care of our father in his last days.

We would also like to thank Dr. Adam Nebeker, Dr. Josef Stehlik, Dr. Amandeep Chadha, and Dr. Kyle Eliason for their wonderful care of our dad in giving us almost 20 more years than we thought we’d have with him.

A very special thanks to all the neighbors and friends who have offered service to our parents over the years.
