Darrell Lowther
OGDEN - Darrell Lowther age 73 rejoined the love of his life, Betty, on Sunday, April 3, 2011. Darrell was surrounded by his family when he passed.
Darrell was born July 24, 1937 in Ogden, Utah, the son of Robert and Elizabeth Lowther. Darrell graduated from Weber High School in 1956. Darrell, at age 17, enlisted in the U.S. Marines and served two years in the Marine Corp Reserve with the 45th Special Infantry Company before going active duty and serving an additional four years active duty service.
Upon honorably discharging from the Marine Corps, Darrell met Betty Kilburn the love of his life. After a courtship of only three months they were married on February 9, 1963 and became soul mates for the next 48 years until Betty''s passing (Dec. 2010).
During his life Darrell worked at Wilson''s Meat Packaging for 13 years and then at Chromalox Heating Control as a quality control welding inspector for 26 years.
Darrell loved to go camping, fishing, hunting and enjoyed raising rabbits. He became an accomplished leather craftsman making wallets, purses and belts for family and friends. Darrell also experimented at wine making for several years. Darrell loved CB radios and was a member of Ogden Diesel Control Radio Club serving as president for several years. He was very active with the Cub Scout and Boy Scout programs. Darrell was known to all around him for his quick wit, sarcasm and charm. Above all his many accomplishments, he was first and foremost a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by one son, Mark (Robyn) Lowther, Plain City; two grandchildren, Scott and Nicole Lowther; two sisters, Carol Lowther Ogden; Suzanne Willette Porter, Maine; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by both of his parents, three brothers and nine sisters.
The family wishes to express their love and appreciation to IHC Hospice, in particular, Bobbi Hyer, Julie Lee, and Robyn Vaughn for their efforts in keeping dad comfortable in his last days.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
Family will meet with friends at the mortuary on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.
Interment, Lindquist''s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd., where Military Honors will be accorded.
