Darrell Fred Mabbutt

September 29, 1941 ~ December 28, 2019

Darrell Fred Mabbutt, 78, of Clinton, passed away early Saturday, December 28, 2019, after a valiant battle with cancer. He passed peacefully holding the hands of his beloved wife and their three daughters.

Darrell was born September 29, 1941, in Price, Utah to Fred Curtis and Marie Timothy Mabbutt. He was the eldest of four children. At the age of 17, he moved to Sugar City, Idaho where he graduated from Sugar-Salem High School. He served as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Eastern States Mission and returned home to be sealed to his eternal sweetheart, Helen Wurst, in the Idaho Falls Temple on August 20, 1962. Darrell and Helen were inseparable and you could often find them together in Helen’s favorite craft stores!

Darrell and Helen raised their three daughters to love the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to cherish their families. Darrell was a very loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be fondly remembered for his practical jokes, his wood whittling, and his teaching moments.

Darrell worked for Rockwell International for 35 years as an electrical engineer, moving with his family around the U.S. during this time. He retired and then returned to work at Hill Air Force Base for seven years. He was proud to have worked on every Apollo Mission, the B1 Bomber, and the space shuttles.

Darrell loved to explore the country with his family, often taking them camping, fishing, and boating. He was also very active with Boy Scouts of America, becoming a Silver Beaver recipient and participating with the Order of the Arrow. He enjoyed his many callings with the Church, including doing genealogical work and serving in the Orlando and Ogden Temples.

Darrell is survived by his wife, Helen Mabbutt; daughters, Ruth (Mark Jones), Sue (Scott McGuire), and Melinda (Landon Brophy); 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and his brothers, Lynn (Marci) Mabbutt and Ben (Roxie) Mabbutt.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Marilyn West.
