Darrell Geary Mecham passed away on October 11, 2011. He was born on May 21, 1924 in Milton, Utah the son of Leland Henry and Reta Agnes Geary Mecham. He was the fourth of ten children.

He spent his younger years on the family farm in Milton. He later volunteered for the service in World War II. He served with the 1st Marine Division in the Pacific. Upon returning home, he married Norine Hoskins on May 8, 1947 in the Logan LDS Temple. They had 8 children: Linda (Giles) Crowton of Washington Terrace, Elaine (Marc) Durham of San Diego, CA, Alan (Kathy) Mecham of West Haven, Dennis Mecham (deceased), Kathy Mecham (deceased), Steven (Karen) Mecham of Marriott-Slaterville, Diane (Brent) Wood of Eden, and Carolyn Rutherford of Marriott-Slaterville, 28 grandchildren and 49 great-grandchildren.

Darrell had been employed at the Utah Power and Light Company and the Railroad. He also had his own business, Darrell Mecham Tree Service, which later became Darrell Mecham and Sons Excavating. For years he worked 24 hours a day. No one has ever worked harder than he did. This legacy was given to his children as well. He and his wife loved dancing and danced with a number of friends as much as three nights a week for many years. He had many fond memories of their dancing. He volunteered his time to the Marriott-Slaterville City for a number of years. A public service award was named in his honor, which is used to award community service volunteers.

He enjoyed camping and hunting with family and friends. He loved the Manti and Uintah Mountains and volunteered cutting and clearing trails in the Uintahs and loved every minute of the work and the beauty of the mountains.

Darrell is survived by six children, three sisters Lola Sewell, Melba Bailey, and Grace Evans and two brothers Verl Mecham and Geary Mecham.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife Norine, parents, son Dennis, daughter Kathy, son-in-law Marc, brothers Ellis and Ray, sisters LaVoil and June.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at 1 p.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 11:45 to 12:45 p.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist''s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
