Darrell Forbes Olsen, 89, passed away on Thursday, October 25, 2012 in Ogden. Darrell was born in Ogden on July 30, 1923 to Clyde Moyer and Vera Lenora Forbes Olsen. He graduated from Ogden High School, enjoyed boxing and won the Golden Gloves Title. He attended school in Chicago, Illinois to become an electrician. He served as a control tower operator with the Army Air Corps in Casablanca during WWII.

In 1986 he retired from 35 years employment at Wonder Bread.

He married Beatrice Wilson, also of Ogden, on July 15, 1949. They lived in Washington Terrace where they raised four boys, shared each other''s lives, and were active and dedicated members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Darrell served in Bishoprics and in a Stake Presidency. He served as Bishop of the Washington Terrace 4th Ward for 5 years. He loved the youth and serving others. Darrell was an inspiring speaker and loved teaching the Gospel Doctrine class. He lost his dear Bea''s companionship when she passed away 17 years ago; also on October 25, in 1995.

Darrell later married Marcia "Micki" Maitland on June 7, 1997 and they moved to South Ogden. Along with gaining a new companion, he also became another father and grandfather to Micki''s family.

He had 4 sons, 21 grandchildren, and 38 great-grandchildren with Bea. When he and Micki joined lives, he enjoyed the new family bonds with her 2 sons, 4 daughters, 16 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Darrell enjoyed hiking, jogging and walking. Together, he and Micki spent time enjoying the foothills and canyons above Ogden. Micki was steadfast and ever present in her companionship, support and loving care throughout their marriage.

He volunteered as a mentor helping the 3rd graders learn their multiplication tables. He loved gardening. He especially enjoyed growing tomatoes. Darrell loved walking the foothills and up to Waterfall with his sons and grandchildren. He would take 3 mile early morning walks.

Darrell is survived by his wife, Micki; 4 sons, David (Linda) of Vernal; Rodger (Nanette) of Ogden; Dwight (Becky) of Pleasant View and Scott (Laura) of Roy, 21 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren; 2 stepsons, Glenn (Shelley) DeVuyst and D. J. (Ilene) Curnutt; 4 stepdaughters, Tammy (Scott) Hill, Holly (Richard) Jackson, Jennifer McIntosh and Marilyn (Jaron) Davis; 16 step-grandchildren and 9 step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bea; infant daughter, mother and father and sister, Rhea Hess.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 29, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. at the mortuary.

Interment, Lindquist''s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road.

The family wishes to thank the staff of the George E. Wahlen Veterans Home in Ogden and Encompass Hospice , especially Ren and Adrian, for their loving and skilled care.
