Darrell “Vaun” Quigley
Together Again
OGDEN – Darrell “Vaun” Quigley, 88, passed away peacefully with his family by his side Tuesday, March 19, 2012 of cause’s incident to age at the George E Wahlen Center. Vaun was born on September 25, 1924 in Ogden, Utah to Joseph Horald and Edith May Allred Quigley. Vaun was first born of six children.
At the young age of 10 his father, Joseph Horald Quigley an Ogden City Police officer was shot and killed in the line of duty leaving him with the responsibilities of becoming the man of the house. Soon after his father’s death, he would go onto begin his first job at Desert Industries, which due to his age he was paid with food and clothing to provide for the brother and sisters. With love and their faith they were able to overcome many obstacles.
Vaun would go onto by pass high school and attend the West High trade school in S.L.C., where he received a certificate in the printing trade, which assisted in him finding work at the Ogden Arsenal. In 1943 he was drafted into the armed forces he served in the U.S. Navy, in World War II upon the USS Dewey 349, with a wish to see the world.
In 1947 Vaun served an LDS mission in Mississippi. He has always had a very strong belief in the LDS faith. After his mission he went onto graduate from Weber State University where he received an Associates of Science degree, and met the love of his life, Marianne. That summer in 1952 he married his beautiful bride at the Logan LDS Temple. He went onto BYU where he received a Bachelor’s degree in General Education.
Vaun and Marianne went onto raise two wonderful boys Horald and Orson in Ogden. He began a long career with Cream O Weber Dairy for 35 years until his retirement. Vaun was a dedicated strong father with determination to overcome all obstacles. In the darkest moments he has always had an unforgettable up-beat cheerful personality and a basic easy going outlook on life.
Vaun is survived by his two sons, Horald and Orson; grandchildren, Colby and Kelsi Quigley; and sisters, Glenna Quigley Baker and Holly Quigley Hall.
He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph Horald Quigley and Edith May Allred; brothers, Val and Joseph Quigley, and sister, June Quigley Hall.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at 1 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
