“Big D”
1934 ~ 2023
ROY‒With heavy hearts, our admired husband, dad, grandpa, son, brother, and friend is released from his courageous battle with Dementia/Alzheimer’s disease. Darrell was born in Franklin, Idaho to Harold J. and Pearl Hampton Wiser on 27 January 1934. They later moved to Utah where he was raised with one brother, Glade Wiser, in the Ogden area where he attended Ogden City Schools.
He met his wife, Marian Thornley, at Ogden High School and they later married on 22 May 1953. They celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary this year.
He joined the US Air Force in 1955 and was honorably discharged in 1959. After the Air Force he made his career in the Aerospace world working as an Electronics Engineer for Marquardt, Astro-Met, and Thiokol where he retired in 1999. His career allowed him to travel the world.
They lived in Roy, Utah, where they raised their two daughters: Karie and Kathy. Darrell enjoyed hunting, fishing, motorcycles, skiing and camping with good neighborhood friends. His favorite past time was long drives in his truck with his hunting dogs and visiting the duck blinds.
His quick wit, off-colored humor, and selective hand gestures were always a hit with his family. He welcomed being the scapegoat when the grandchildren followed in his ways with his humor. His charm made it easy to love him anywhere he was. As Darrell always says, “Shit Happens”.
Darrell is survived by his wife Marian; daughters Karie (Kent) Eggleston and Kathy (Todd) Christensen; grandchildren Darek (Megan) Eggleston, Tana Eggleston (Jared Shaw), Brock (Shelby) Butler, Kailey (Kyle) Norman; great-grandchildren, Ellie, Bree, Zane, River, Ridge, Bronson, Brixton, Blakely, Rocklyn; and brother Glade. Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws Merlin and Lois; two brothers-in-law Dennis “Mo” and Kent and one sister-in-law, Kathryn.
Our family would like to thank Sunridge Assisted Living of Roy, Canyon Home Care and Hospice, and the countless nurses and caregivers for their loving care and compassion.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, 23 August 2023 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. Per Darrell’s request, there will be no visitation. Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
