Darryl Arvol Sholly
OGDEN a" With his sons by his side and after a hard fought battle with cancer our "Pops" is finally free of the pain. He passed away peacefully Saturday, October 16, 2010.
He was the son of Bill and Carmen Sholly, born July 4, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois. His family moved to Ogden in 1952. He graduated from Bonneville High School in 1961 and married his high school sweetheart, Judith Ann Leferink on January 7, 1962. Although they were divorced in 1979, they remained very close friends until his passing, vacationing together with close friends, Jay and Kathy Jarvis, for the past few years.
Pops was happiest when hunting, fishing, or camping with his sons and grandkids. He had an incredible passion for Alaska and went there yearly. His face would light up anytime anyone mentioned Alaska and he knew just about everything there was to know about Alaska.
He was extremely generous a" almost to a fault a" if any family member or friend ever needed help, he was always there for them. Strangers and brief acquaintances who were down on their luck were often beneficiaries of his generosity. He will be sorely missed and fondly remembered.
Pops is survived by his two grateful sons, Todd (Annette) Sholly, Damon (Heidi) Sholly, seven grandkids, Brandon Todd (Amy) Sholly, Bradey Todd Sholly, Sadee Sholly, Tage Dale Sholly, Kiersten Sholly, Caleb Damon Sholly, Trae Darryl Sholly, two great-grandkids, Hunter and Brynlee Sholly and an amazing ex-wife, Judie A. Sholly, who cared for him 24 hours a day for the last few weeks of his life. He is also survived by his mother, Carmen Sholly, two brothers and four sisters.
He was preceded in death by his dad, Bill Sholly.
The family would like to thank Dr. Vincent Hansen and staff, the Intermountain Hospice Team and the McKay-Dee 5th Floor doctors and nurses. They would also like to thank all of their family and friends for their support.
