DarThel Bybee Pike
January 5, 1926 – October 24, 2017
DarThel Bybee Pike was born on January 5, 1926 in Harrisville, Utah and peacefully graduated from mortality on October 24, 2017 in West Point, Utah. Her energetic and abundant life was filled with love: Love of God, love for her devoted husband, love for her posterity, and love for her neighbor. Her love for Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus Christ was manifest in her unwavering testimony of the restored gospel and her service in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She contributed in many capacities, but especially loved leading the music and singing in choirs with her exceptional soprano voice.
Her love for her husband Frank began with a two-month courtship that was prelude to a life of devotion to each other and to eternity together, having been sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on October 3, 1945. Living in Oregon, Idaho and Utah they raised nine children: Marianne (David) Higginson, Stepaney (Gordon) Powell, Fran (Howard) Brown, Dart Frank Pike, Caroline (Neal) Briggs, Oscar (Stephanie) Pike, Marti Pike, Frank (Debbie) Pike, and Leda (Russell) Stoker. She was so proud of her forty-seven grandchildren, and currently ninety-six great grandchildren.
From her youth and throughout her life, DarThel loved to learn. After one semester at Redlands College in California and another at Brigham Young University, she postponed her formal education until after their children were born, finishing a bachelor’s Degree in elementary education at Boise State College at age 40. She instilled a love for learning in her posterity. She put her education to work in many ways, including elementary school teacher, secretary, and stockbroker. After retirement, she and Frank served missions in the Missouri Independence Mission,Texas Houston East Mission, and a service mission at the Gunnison Utah Prison
DarThel was well known for her beautifully hand-written cards and notes to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, and other occasions. Her cards will be missed by many who called her Mother, Grandma, Great-Grandma, Aunt and Friend. Before leaving on their first mission, she simply requested that her children “love each other.” May all of her posterity love one another, and by doing so, honor her.
She was preceded in death by husband Frank Jensen Pike, son Dart Frank Pike, grandchildren Nancy Powell, Joshua Pike Briggs, Meg Higginson; parents Dart Otto Bybee and Thelma Caroline Steimle and brother Keith D. Bybee. She is survived by her numerous posterity, sisters Celia Draper ( Grand View, Idaho) Nannette Block (Provo, Utah) and sister-in-law Lois Smelser (Salt Lake City, Utah).
The family would like to thank the loving caregivers at Family Tree Assisted Living Center in West Point, her hospice nurse Alice Bosworth and the many friends and family who helped make her life sweet.
