Daryl Clark Warren

3/1/1924 – 3/11/2014

Daryl Warren was born March 1, 1924, in Syracuse, Utah, a son of Glen and Mabel Clark Warren.  He was raised on a farm and attended Davis County schools, graduating from Davis High School in 1942.  At Davis High he served as a Sophomore Class president and was active in band and orchestra, playing the saxophone.  He and his older brother, Bill, were members of “The Davis Dithers,” a dance band which provided music for the high school dances and other community functions.

He was drafted in 1943 into the Signal Corps, but became an Air Force Cadet attending Dickinson College in PA.  He, along with many other Air Force Cadets and ASTP college students, was transferred to the Army infantry for combat during the Invasion of Europe.  He was seriously wounded in the Battle of the Bulge in December of 1944, was hospitalized for thirteen major operations throughout Europe and was discharged from Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D.C. in September of 1945.

Daryl married Jean Ellison in November, 1945.  They were later sealed in the Denver LDS Temple.  He retired from United Airlines after 27 years where he served in the sales-public relations department in Utah and Denver, Colorado.  He was a member of the LDS Church and served on the High Council in Denver.

Daryl is survived by his wife, Jean, Layton; two daughters, Mary Lynn Callaghan (Rick-deceased), Layton; Margaret Ann Kirk (Cameron), Santa Rosa, CA; grandson, Charles Cameron Kirk, CO; granddaughters, Susan Callaghan Beaty and Jennifer Callaghan Story, both of VA; brother, Carl D. Warren (Laura), Salt Lake City; and sister-in-law, Verniece Warren of West Point.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, William (Bill) Warren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.  Friends may visit family Saturday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the mortuary.  Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to the LDS Missionary Fund.  The family would like to thank the staff of the William E. Christofferson Veterans Home for the recent excellent care they have provided for Daryl.
