David L. Applonie passed away Friday, July 23, 2021, at 66 years old, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.
David always loved being outdoors. We hope now he’s enjoying the sun and mountains in a better place, free from pain.
David was born March 3, 1955 in Ogden, Utah to Donald Lawrence Applonie and LaRue Irene Higley. He was the second of four children. He graduated from Roy High School in 1973.
David proudly served in the United States Air Force for seven years and then worked for the US Postal Service until his retirement.
David married Debbie Adams in 1982 and helped raise his stepdaughter, Mindy. They later divorced. On May 14, 1998, David married Wendy Kay Fields in Zion National Park. Together they raised his two wonderful stepdaughters, Kaleigh and Shay.
David and Wendy were married for 23 years, and some of their happiest times were family vacations to the cabin at Bear Lake, Disneyland at Halloween, Smoky Mountain National Park, Hawaii, and Cancun. David also enjoyed camping, hiking, and fishing in the Uinta Mountains and at Bear Lake, especially with his brother, Brent and his son-in-law, Tyler. David loved gardening and was often known to have spent hours at a time in his yard at home.
David is survived by his wife, Wendy Applonie, two stepdaughters, Kaleigh (Tyler) Patterson, Mishayla Foster, two granddaughters, Laila and Everly Patterson, and three siblings, Brent (Jean) Applonie, Gay (Dave) Lloyd, and Sharon (Paul) Larsen. He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family would like to express special thanks to Barrington Place Care Center and Applegate Hospice for their quality care and loving service.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 30, 2021 at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South. The family will meet with friends prior to the services from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.
A tree will be adopted under David's name with a memorial plaque in the Ogden Botanical Gardens near the Ogden River Parkway.
