David Elwin Arnell returned to his Heavenly Father on Thursday, May 5, 2022 after cardiac arrest.
He was a much-loved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.
David was born in Logan, Utah on May 9, 1947 to Elwin Pugmire Arnell and Aileen Van Orden Arnell. He was the oldest of eight children. As a young man he would deliver newspapers around the
Capitol Building in Salt Lake City, where he lived. He loved playing sports with all his brothers and excelled in basketball.
After graduating from Davis High in 1965, he served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Toronto, Canada. Following this, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the Vietnam war. Upon returning home, he courted Kay Lynn King, who he dated between his mission and military service. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on November 17, 1972. Together they had seven wonderful children.
David had a great love for his family and took joy in serving others. Alongside Kay Lynn, they served as Service Missionaries in the Kaysville Willow Pine Ward. He had an unwavering testimony and love for the Savior, and often took time to teach his family the principles of the gospel. He served in a variety of church callings most recently as a Temple Prep Teacher. Throughout his life he spent countless hours quietly serving those around him. He also loved the outdoors, horseback riding, camping, and spending time in nature with his family.
David graduated from LDS Business College in accounting. He worked for his father’s trucking company as a truck driver and accountant, and his kids loved to travel with him hauling cars across the country. Prior to working as a truck driver he worked with his friend, Bruce Broadhead in accounting and then was able to continue work for him after retiring from driving trucks. He worked with Bruce for over 30 years. He loved working as an accountant.
David is survived by his loving wife of nearly 50 years Kay Lynn, his children, Melissa (Craig) Crossley, Erick (Stacie) Arnell, Melanie (Greg) Johnson, Keith (Corina) Arnell, Alan (Jenni) Arnell, Heather (Kami) Arnell, Roger (Chanel) Arnell, and 28 grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Dennis (Debbie), Blake (Connie), Kirk (Linda), Blair (Debbie), Mark (Laurie), Glen (Renee), and his sister Joy (Mark) Hawkes. He was proceeded in death by his parents Elwin and Aileen.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the Kaysville LDS Tabernacle, 198 W. Center Street, Kaysville, Utah.
Friends may visit with family on Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Lindquist’s Kaysville Mortuary, 400 North Main Street, and Tuesday at the Tabernacle from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to services.
