David T. Clark

David T. Clark 1920 ~ 2009 PROVO – David Thomas Clark, 89, passed away Saturday, October 3, 2009, in Provo, Utah. He was born in Oakley, Idaho on March 13, 1920, to Maude Thomas and Ezra T. Clark. He was one of four children and the only son. He attended public schools in Oakley and graduated from Oakley High School in 1938. David attended Utah State University on a football scholarship and competed for the track team. He was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity and graduated from Utah State University in 1942. On June 16, 1942, David married Elizabeth Wardleigh in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were blessed with two children and married 62 years before Elizabeth’s passing in 2004. Immediately following their marriage, David began service in the United States Army, assigned to the Coast Artillery. He achieved the rank of captain and was decorated for his service on the island of Saipan during World War II. He served in the military from 1942 to 1946. Following military service, David returned to Ogden where he found employment with Mountain Bell Telephone. He retired in 1984 after 38 years of service. He also was actively involved in the Junior Chamber of Commerce, the Sons of the Utah Pioneers, and the Ogden Lions Club where he served as President and District Governor. David was an active and committed member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and during his life served in a number of presiding positions. In the last several years, he especially enjoyed serving with the 60’s plus group and as a diligent home teacher. David embraced life and was devoted servant to others. He loved his family and was a man of complete integrity, compassion and generosity. He was active and involved in good causes all of his life. David is survived by his son, Ward (Lee Anne) Clark of Double Oak, TX; and daughter, Leigh Ann (Jeff) Bills of Provo, UT; as well as four grandchildren, Heather Ann (William) Johnson, Provo, UT; Kevin (Whitney) Bills, Palo Alto, CA; Thomas (Alta) Bills, Provo, UT; Jamie Clark, Salt Lake City; and five great-grandchildren. David was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth, parents, sisters, and grandson, Travis Clark. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 8, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may call at the mortuary on Thursday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Interment, Ogden City Cemetery.
