David J. Fiet
April 14, 1919 ~ March 19, 2014
David J. Fiet loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend passed away peacefully at his home on March 19, 2014. David would have been 95 next month. Born on April 14, 1919 to parents Glenna Nelson and Joseph Fiet, he was named and blessed after David O. McKay, a family friend. David married the love of his life, Betty Jane Snell on June 28, 1946 in Forest Lawn, CA.
He was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was the first Eagle Scout in the old Ogden 7th Ward. He proudly served his country in the Army in WWII in the Railroad Battalion.
David was a Locomotive Engineer. He worked for the SP Railroad from 1941 until his retirement in 1984. He worked as a Railroad Official for a short time in 1967, missing his true love as engineer, he returned to driving train. He also was involved with the Weber County Public Defenders Association as a board member.
David enjoyed his family and many friends, shopping, especially at the meat counter where he could pick out the choicest meats. He loved taking care of his yard.
David is survived by his wife, Betty Jane; daughters, Marsha (John) Zwyner, Debbie (Larry) Stoddard, and Alyson (Terry) Shaw; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and infant son, John David.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Saturday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
Special thanks to all the IHC Hospice workers, especially Julie, Misty, Lisa, and Jenn. Thanks also for the great neighbors for all their wonderful help, especially Danny and Chad.
