David Finlinson

David Shipley Finlinson, loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully Thursday, November 17, 2016. David was born in Oak City, Utah, May 14, 1935, a son of Grant L. and Ann S. Finlinson. He was sealed to Judith Jean Dalton in the Salt Lake LDS Temple August 26, 1960. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Jensen Park Ward. His church service included Executive Secretary, Primary Teacher, Choir Director, Temple Worker, faithful Home Teacher, Ward Missionary and many other positions. He served a mission in the Southern States Mission from 1955-1957.  He graduated from Brigham Young University in 1960 with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration. He was a member of the Gadianton Band in BYU’s Delta Phi Fraternity. He was the Business Manager for the Utah School for the Deaf and Blind in Ogden, Utah.  In retirement, he owned and operated Dave’s Spar-Kleen Ceilings.  David enjoyed people, his favorite being his grandchildren. He viewed everyone as his friend and shared his quick wit with all.  He lit up the room with his smile and love of life.

Surviving are his current wife of nine years, Irene Marie (Cox) Steglich Finlinson; children, Jalair Finlinson, Syracuse, UT; Danele Finlinson, Dublin, CA; Kyle David (Sharon) Finlinson, Layton, UT; Steven Dean (Dana) Finlinson, Kaysville, UT; David (Nicole) Stout, Murray, UT; Grant Arthur (Kimberly) Finlinson, South Weber, UT; Shara (DaRell) Frehner, St. George, UT; Charles Leo (Jodie) Finlinson, Gilbert, AZ and Andrew Jay (Sue) Finlinson, Worland, WY. Also surviving are grandchildren, Kyra (James), MaKayla, Tyrel “Yo”, Logan, Kaden, Gabriel “Gabe”, Jared David “J.D.”, McKell, Brynna Roberts, Jessica, Broc, Ryan, Brexton, Tariq, Tiauna, Quentin “Q”, Carlan; siblings, Sandra Dewsnup Mork, RaNae (Michael) Ledingham, Robert (Cindy) Finlinson, Douglas (Marianne) Finlinson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Grant Lyman and Ann LaVon Shipley Finlinson. His sweetheart, Judith Jean Dalton; one sister, Janet Torrens; one son, Grant Dalton Finlinson; and a daughter Tecia Stout.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, November, 21, 2016 at the Jensen Park Ward, 3024 South 1200 West, Syracuse, Utah. Friends may visit family Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, 1867 North Fairfield Road, and Monday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Syracuse City Cemetery.
