David Drew Jorgensen

April 22, 1937 — April 6, 2023

Our devoted, brave, and loving husband and father, David Drew Jorgensen, was reunited with our Savior Jesus Christ on April 6, 2023.

Dave was born on April 22, 1937 to Daniel Drew and Pearl Allen Jorgensen. He has one sister, Marianne, whom he loves dearly. He was raised in Ogden where he made many dear, life-long friends.

Dave served two and a half years for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Uruguayan Mission which included Uruguay, Paraguay and Peru. He often spoke of these people with esteem and love.

Dave met the love of his life, his eternal companion, Jan in 1960 on a blind date and they were instantly smitten with each other. They were married in 1962 in the Salt Lake Temple and eventually became the parents of three daughters and one son.  They recently celebrated their 61st Wedding Anniversary.

Dave graduated with a degree in electrical engineering and worked for the Bell System subsidiaries throughout his life. He worked in the Engineering department, ending his career as Director (Assistant General Manger).  He earned several awards during his career.

Dave’s early hobbies were fishing and hunting. Soon after he became a family man, these hobbies were replaced by family history and gardening. He loved family history and worked on connecting generations for over 40 years. Additionally, Dave was instrumental in creating the love of family history work in his children.  He also loved watching things grow, and after retirement became a Master Gardener through the Utah State University Extension.  He kept his yard in immaculate detail and his family and neighbors admired his extensive knowledge and hard work as well as the beauty of his yard.

Dave is an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings throughout his life. Dave and Jan also served a Family History Mission for eight years and loved attending the temple together often.

Almost six years ago, Dave was diagnosed with an aggressive prostate cancer that had already begun to spread throughout his body. He was blessed with a profound quality of life during this period. We are so grateful for his caring medical team, which included Dr. Sherman Sutherland, Rick Cloward, PA, Dr. Brian Heaton, and nurses, Pat, and Heather, as well as many others. During the last four months of life, Dave was cared for by Victoria and others of Intermountain Hospice.

Dave is survived by his wife, Jan, of 61 years; children, Alisa and Kevin Sumsion, Lynette and Steven Hancock, Carolyn and Leland Heywood, and Mike and Julie Jorgensen; and his sister, Marianne (Arza) Stewart. He is also survived by 27 grandchildren and their spouses and 24 great-grandchildren.
