David Benjamin Lyon

SYRACUSE - Our son, brother, father, and greatest of all, our hero, David Benjamin Lyon, age 32, passed away from heart complications on July 29, 2014 in San Diego California. He was born November 24, 1981 in Logan Utah to Gordon and Lynnette Lyon. He attended Davis High School and in 2004 joined the US Marines Corps. He served his family, country, and God with valor, bravery, and duty. David completed two tours in Iraq, two in Afghanistan, and one in Cambodia. He was a survivor of an IED blast in Afghanistan in 2010 that took his legs but not his strength, determination and sheer will to survive. David endured more pain, suffering and setbacks than imaginable. Through it all, he was positive, fighting back the pain with inner strength and hard work. His last words were, “I love you Mom!” All who survive him will miss him terribly; but his positive attitude and zeal for life will live on through everyone who knew him.

David was a true outdoorsman. He loved testing nature where he could challenge himself and try new things.

He is survived by his parents Gordon and Lynnette Lyon; his son, Ethen Jace Lyon; his sisters, Christina, Rachelle (Jay), Mary Jayne (Kevin); and brothers, Michael (Tiffany), Damean “J.J” (Katie), and Stephen (Jocelyn); many uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, many wonderful friends, and his service dog, Stanley.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, August 8, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 Fairfield Rd, Layton, Utah. Friends may visit with family on Thursday, August 7, 2014 from 6 to 8 pm and Friday 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.

Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery with full military honors.
