David Maes

David Maes, 59, passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2015 after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer.
He was born August 6, 1955 in Logan, Utah the baby of 13 children to Antonio Manuel and Domietillia Martinez Maes. He grew up in Smithfield, Ogden, and Brigham City. He attended Box Elder High School where he was a member of the baseball and diving teams.
David joined the U.S. Army in 1973, during the Vietnam Era and received an honorable discharge in 1976. An expert marksman, he served in Germany for a time and had memorable experiences.
In 1981, he married Debra Hymas, and from that union his son, the light of his life, Chad David Maes was born. They later divorced. David married Debbie Coleman in 1997, and together they built a wonderful life. They were seldom apart, even working together for 12 years.
David started his career at Hill Air Force Base after he and Chad moved from Logan to Clinton. He retired in 2012 after over 30 years of service. The last ten years, he served as the F16 Paint Supervisor.
He loved the outdoors; he was an avid golfer, fisherman and hunter. His favorite times were spent in the mountains at elk camp and more recently LaPlata. He enjoyed spending weekends in the backyard, throwing horseshoes, “burning meat,” and entertaining his friends and family. David had a magnetic personality and special way with people making friends wherever he went. He was loved and admired by his many friends, family, and those he supervised. Although he only had one child, he was called ‘Dad’ by many.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Elmer, sisters Dominica Patino, Wilhelma Heredia and Florinda Alvarez.
David is survived by his wife Debbie; son Chad; brothers Anthony, LeRoy, Bennie, Bobby, Lloyd; sisters Charlotte Barrera, Vivian Eaton, Norma Jean Martinez; many nieces and nephews; dear friend and right hand Scott Beauchamp as well as many friends he considered family.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South. The family will meet with friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. A Rosary Service will be held Monday at 7 p.m.
The family thanks the nurses and staff at Utah Hematology and Oncology as well as the angels of Rocky Mountain Hospice. Interment, Clinton Cemetery.
