David Raws Miller
SYRACUSE – David Raws Miller, 68, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, January 13, 2010.
David was born on October 2, 1941 in Murray, Utah to Marvin George and Loraine Chipman Miller.
He spent his youth in East Mill Creek and had many happy memories of his childhood there. He graduated from Olympus High School in 1960, and then served and LDS Mission to the Northwestern States. He attended Brigham Young University until he enlisted in the Marines and served in the Vietnam War.
As a young man, he was a guide for Western River Expeditions on the Colorado and Snake Rivers. David was a residential general contractor and owned Miller Construction.
He married Marilyn Carlson Miller on September 8, 1972 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They had three children together and later divorced in 1992.
David had a great love for the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding mules and horses, camping and gardening. He earned his private pilot’s license and enjoyed aviation.
He is survived by his children; Lisa (Grif) Jensen, Marvin Gregory Miller, and Jacqueline (Nat) Holfeltz, grandchildren; Rhett, Lauren and Morgan Jensen, Luke and Alec Miller, and Tess and Shae Holfeltz, siblings; Margaret Beall Champ, Marvin (Nancy) Miller, and Carole (Milan) Uremovich.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Jean Robinson.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 18, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends and family may call Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Elysian Gardens, 1075 E. 4580 S., Salt Lake City.
