David Parkin

June 21, 1940 — January 8, 2019

LAYTON – David Stanley Parkin, 78, passed away Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at his home in the arms of his loving wife, Carol.  He was born June 21, 1940 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the son of Stanley Karl Parkin and Louise Pearl O’Brien. He grew up in Woods Cross and Bountiful, Utah and raised his family in Glendale, California. He later moved back to Utah and lived in Park City and Layton.

On June 27, 1964 David married the love of his life, Carol Westover in the Mesa Arizona Temple.

David graduated with a degree in Political Science from Brigham Young University in 1965.  He graduated from the University of Utah Law School in 1968 with a Juris Doctorate degree. His career included working as an attorney and partner at Melby & Anderson Law Firm in Glendale, California.  He also owned several automobile dealerships and was a real estate investor.

David served in the Utah National Guard and the Army Reserve.

He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served an honorable mission in the Central Atlantic States Mission from 1960 to 1962. Besides his family, the most important thing to David was his service in the church and he served faithfully wherever called.

David was very community-minded and served in various capacities. He was a member of the Jaycees (a civic organization for business and community leaders) for several years and served as a National Vice President.  He also served on the Board of  Glendale Memorial Hospital and was a member of the California Bar Association. During his lifetime he received various professional and community awards and recognitions for his service.

David enjoyed traveling, family history, genealogy, bargain shopping and collecting antiques, but he most enjoyed spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother and sister-in-law, Duane and Judy.
David is survived by his loving wife, Carol and their seven children: Shawn (Vonnie), Tausha, Trenton (Lisa), Jason (Heidi), Jeremy (Miriam), Maren (Aaron Lewis), Jonathan (Casey Anne).  He is also survived by thirty-two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and his siblings: Karlene (Hank Baaker), Derral (Irma), Edward, Dan (Tammy), Randy (Lori), Cindy (Robert Law).

A viewing will be held with the family on Friday, January 18, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Lindquist's Mortuary located at 1867 North Fairfield Road, Layton, Utah. There will be an additional viewing on Saturday, January 19, 2019 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. with Funeral Services to follow at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 1085 North 50 East, Kaysville, Utah.

Interment at Bountiful City Cemetery.
