David Parry Wilson

November 30, 1915 – February 12, 2017

David Parry Wilson died Sunday morning, February 12, 2017, at his residence in Fairfield Village.  Parry was 101 years old – he said the first 100 years were the hardest.

He was born November 30, 1915 in Salt Lake City, son of Alexander Ferguson and Elizabeth Irene Parry Wilson.  He lived in South Ogden for 50 years and in Fairfield Village in Layton for the past six years.  He remembered fondly the first 20 years of his married life in living in Logan and always loved Cache Valley.

He married Helen Ruth Drechsel on August 20, 1940 in the Salt Lake Temple.

He grew up in Ogden and Salt Lake City and graduated from Ogden High School and University of Utah, where he received all-conference honors on the basketball team.  He received his master’s degree from the University of Utah and his doctorate from Utah State University.

Parry was a master teacher and spent his career in education.  He was a coach, teacher, high school principal, professor and vice president at Weber State.  He loved sports and competition, most especially basketball, golf, and tennis.  He was always ready for a round of golf.

Parry was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as a bishop, high councilor, counselor in a stake presidency, for 26 years as a stake patriarch, and for 20 years as a sealer in the Ogden Temple.  He and Helen served as directors of the Oakland Temple Visitor’s Center from 1981- 1983.

His first love was hisfamily and he was information central for everyone in the family.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen, and is survived by his children Judy (Pete) Monson, Richfield; Brent (Renee) Wilson, Provo; Janet (George) Wardell, Layton; and Kim (Annette) Wilson, Alpine.  Also surviving are 16 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 18, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Rd.  Friends may visit with family from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the services.
