David Petersen

David J Petersen died peacefully on January 16, 2022, one day short of his 72nd birthday. He was born January 17, 1950, in Afton, Wyoming to Leo and Beulah Petersen, the 6th child of a family of 9 children. David’s first 11 years were spent in Freedom, Wy, until the family moved to Granite, Utah. He attended Jordan High School where he excelled in track and field, holding the district high jump record for many years and attended the U of U on a track scholarship.

He married Jilleen Parker, and they cherished their 2 sons, Adam, and Kade. They later divorced. David then married Lisa Wilkinson and adopted Lisa’s son, Dillon. Together they had 2 children, Tre and Marissa. They later divorced.

David started working for H&R block at the age of 16 and continued working there for 45+ years, retiring as the Salt Lake District Manager. He loved all sports and was active until the last few years. Illnesses and injuries finally restricted the activities he was able to enjoy. David survived Hodgkin’s Lymphoma twice, together with other major surgeries and complications.

As a consummate handyman, David could fix anything and was very skilled at carpentry, building, welding, auto repair, and anything else. He took great satisfaction from being able to help family, friends, and neighbors with whatever they needed.

A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served in many callings and particularly working with the youth and serving as a home teacher.

David is survived by his 5 children, Adam (Lisa), Kade, Dillon, Tre, and Marissa, along with 5 grandchildren. Also survived by 5 brothers: Claine (Juanita), Bernell, Milton (Sandra), Dann, Jim (Renae). Preceded in death by his parents and 3 siblings.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 am, Friday, January 21, 2022, at the Midvale Union Park 2nd Ward Chapel, 700 E. 7500 So. Midvale, Ut, where friends may visit family from 9:30 – 11:00 am prior to services.  A graveside service and interment will be at the Freedom, WY, Cemetery on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 2:30 pm.
