David Rees

David Rudy Rees, 83, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2016 surrounded by his family. He never thought he would live this long. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on April 2, 1933 to David and Grace Rees. He attended West High School and then served his country in the US Army.  He married Merlene Mault in 1951 and had 4 children. They moved to Anaheim, California and divorced many years later. He married JoAnn Woodell (deceased) in 1976. They lived many years in Yorba Linda and Anaheim, California. Later in life, he married Barbara Goff (deceased) in 1994. They lived in Anaheim and Hemet, California and then Goodyear, Arizona.

He founded a successful insurance company, Davco in Orange County, California. He was a natural entrepreneur, loved to travel in his motorhome, play golf, and enjoyed the finer things in life. He had a talent in constructing and creating amazing woodwork designs. He enjoyed sharing this talent with others. He was known for his sense of humor, contagious smile, stubbornness, and his generosity. We all loved his candid personality.

In 2012 he returned to Utah to be closer to some of his family. He had a love for His Savior and desired to be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He lived the last few years at Fairfield Village in Layton, Utah. His personality attracted the people around him. He was a “bad, bad boy” sometimes and gave his family and care givers some good laughs with his “quiet voice.”

David was a loving father, friend, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his first wife, Merlene Mault, his children Craig (Renee) Rees, Scott (Tammie) Rees, Stacy Rees, Jill (Andy) McNamara, Mark (Kathy) Cathey, Shelly Anderson, Cara (Will) Friday, Michael Chapin, Don Chapin, 33 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the Kaysville Stake Center 615 North Flint Street, Kaysville, Utah. Friends may visit with family from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
