David Brown Sneddon

July 9, 1941 ~ June 25, 2017

David Brown Sneddon, 75, passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2017 at McKay-Dee Hospital of a well-worn and much used heart. He was surrounded by his girls and family.

Born in Ogden, Utah on July 9, 1941 to John Robert and Ruth Brown Sneddon, he was the much loved caboose of a railroad family in a railroad town. He married Rhea Ann Crowley and later divorced. On May 10, 1973 he married the cutest freckled redhead, Becky Luan Reid. Their marriage was solemnized in the Ogden LDS Temple on May 10, 1975.

He attended Dee Elementary and Madison Elementary, Central Junior High, and was a proud graduate of Ogden High School, Class of 1960.  Putting your hand over your heart was mandatory for his family when passing by Ogden High.  He went to school for three reasons: basketball, football and baseball. He played ball on a farm team for the San Francisco Giants where he had the opportunity to pitch to Willie Mayes and Willie McCovey.  He had a mean knuckle ball according to Hoyt Wilhelm.

Dave was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served an LDS mission to the Netherlands in 1961 and at the time of his death was an instructor in the High Priest Quorum in the Burch Creek 6th Ward.

He was proud to serve his country and served in the United States Army in Vietnam where he earned several medals including the Bronze Star.

His life’s profession was management and maintenance of senior citizen housing. He spent the last day of his life working in the yard.  Despite his limited mobility in a wheelchair he was always working hard whether it was planting flowers, repairing sprinklers, or shoveling snow. Through his example he taught us about long suffering, hard work and enduring to the end.

Family and friends are welcome to come and share their favorite memories.  Dave had the best stories and we look forward to the day when he will tell us new ones.

A special thank you to the EMTs, police officers, and McKay-Dee Hospital ER staff for their compassionate service during a difficult time.

He is survived by his wife, Becky; three daughters: Jennifer (Chris) Bachman, Shelly (Randy) Nay, and Sienie (Dan) Wheelwright; ten grandchildren: Sean (Valerie), Stephanie (Eric), Jordan, Colton, Amy, Bailey, Heather, Cooper, Henna, and Jacoby. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Gary (Jeanene) Reid; sisters-in-law, Sharlene Hess and Beth Reid; and numerous nieces and nephews who adored him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings: Robert Sneddon, Dorothy Draney, Bill Sneddon, and Lou Jean Leishman. He was also preceded in death by his parents-in-law, Harl and Zelda Reid, and brother-in-law, Deloy Reid.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 30, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary 3408 Washington Blvd.  Friends may visit with family on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.  Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
