David Lamar Thurgood
SYRACUSE – David Lamar Thurgood, 74, returned to his sweetheart and eternal companion Donell on Thursday, June 4, 2015.
He was born February 4, 1941 the son of Kenneth L. and Jasmine D. Slaughter Thurgood in Ogden, Utah.
David was raised in Syracuse. He graduated from Davis High School and while there was President of the FFA.
David married Donell Cook on November 17, 1960 in Salt Lake City Temple. She preceded him in death on February 25, 1990. He married Shelley Brown Lefler on July 20, 1991 in Syracuse, Utah.
He managed RC Willey’s Murray location and then left to run the Thurgood family dairy farm. David was a member of the Utah Dairy Commission.
He loved milking cows, riding horses as a kid, attending the Blackfoot, Idaho fair with his friends and family and anything to do with the farm. He loved his animals! Above all he had a great love for his family.
Surviving are his wife Shelley, son Scott David (Tricia), daughters, Denise (Bryce) Beazer, Tammy (Chad) Ritter, 15 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren (with one on the way), step-children, Nathan Lloyd (Kelly) Lefler, Tawnya Lefler, sister, Pat (Ralph) Turner, two nieces and one nephew.
Preceded in death by his parents, wife Donnell and twin brothers.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 11, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Maplewood Ward, 1660 W. 2228 So., Syracuse. Friends may visit family Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Road and Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
Interment, Syracuse City Cemetery.
