David Candler Westbrook

November 10, 1943 — October 27, 2023

David Candler Westbrook passed away Friday, October 27, 2023 in Ogden, Utah.

 

He was born November 10, 1943 in Clarkesville, Georgia to father William Arthur Westbrook, Sr. and mother Mary Ethel Sorrells Westbrook. He grew up with his brother William Arthur Westbrook Jr., deceased, sister Peggy Westbrook Tatum, deceased, half-brother James Westbrook, half-sister Nancy Westbrook Smith.

 

David was married to Kelsey Elaine Poole on December 20, 1970. They had one child, Melissa Michelle Westbrook Mayberry.

 

He served 26 years in the United States Air Force and achieved the rank of Master Sergeant. He was stationed in multiple locations including Washington, North Carolina, South Dakota, Wyoming, Germany, and Vietnam. He retired at F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, Wyoming in 1987. We are thankful for his service.

 

David was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and loved his family very much. He was an avid collector of model trains and coins. He has a large collection of these to be passed down to his family. He loved playing darts, bowling, and pool and has won multiple awards for these.

 

David is survived by his wife, Kelsey Elaine Westbrook; his daughter, Melissa Michelle Mayberry and her husband, Dwayne Mayberry; his three grandchildren, Victoria Beth Vigus, David Alan Mayberry, Alexis Marie Mayberry; and his great-grandchild, Jace Alan Erickson.

 

There will be a private memorial service for the immediate family on Friday, November 24, 2023 where military honors will be accorded.

In lieu of flowers, we encourage donations to the Cheyenne Animal Shelter in Cheyenne, Wyoming and St. Joseph’s Indian School in Chamberlain, South Dakota. David was a regular donator to these institutions.
