David Thomas Zentner
August 15, 1923 ~ March 12, 2019
SOUTH OGDEN–Our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, David Thomas Zentner, 95, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2019 in his South Ogden home.
He was born on August 15, 1923 in Clover, Utah, the son of Johann Casper and Adalaide Amy Dean Zentner. He attended school in Clover and graduated from Tooele High School.
David served in the United States Army during WWII and was later employed at Hill Air Force Base, retiring after 30 years of service. He also worked at various locations as a baker for many years and will be remembered for his tremendous work ethic and example.
He married Ruth Johansen on July 23, 1947 and their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in January 1950.
David served in the Boy Scouts of America as a scoutmaster for nine years, as an assistant District Commissioner, and received the Silver Beaver Award. He served as a temple ordinance worker and in various other responsibilities within the Church. He was an active member of the Utah Blind Association and successfully lobbied the Utah State Legislature to provide funding for transportation for blind children.
He enjoyed traveling, playing golf, bowling, and riding his motorcycle through various National Parks.
David is survived by his children, Linda (Neil) Christensen, Queen Creek, AZ; Teresa Zentner, South Ogden; David “Tim” Thomas Zentner, II, Huntington Beach, CA; and Sallie Kirk, Ogden; 8 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
He was loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Salt Lake City Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded.
