Dean Daily

Dean Daily died peacefully at the McKay Dee Hospital surrounded by his loving family on January 30, 2014. He was born July 22, 1925 in Granger, Wyoming, the son of James A. Daily Sr. and Ruth I. Moore Daily. He moved to Ogden, Utah with his railroad family in 1942 from Laramie, Wyoming. He served his country in the U.S. Navy in Kodiak, Alaska during World War II as part of the Alaskan Defense Command.

He graduated from Ogden High School in the “Class of 1944”.  Following the war, he graduated from Weber State College with an A.S. Degree and also attended the University of Utah before starting a 40 year career in banking and finance. He retired as an officer with First Security Bank in 1987. He served as a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce and Ogden Chamber of Commerce, Lakeview School PTA president, Weber State Emeritus Alumni Council and was an IHC McKay Dee Hospital Volunteer for over 20 years.

He married Neta Sullivan in 1955, and they have enjoyed 59 years of marriage together. They resided in Roy for 21 years and have lived in South Ogden since 1980.

In his earlier years he enjoyed working outside around their home, spending time at the family cabin at Pineview Reservoir, and golfing. After his retirement, he treasured the time spent with his children and grandchildren. He loved family vacations, and especially liked going on cruises to Alaska, Europe, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Hawaii. He and his family built and developed the first RV overnight camping park in Riverdale called the Golden Spike Camper Park.

His greatest joy was spending time with his wife, Neta.  His children and grandchildren were his greatest pride. After giving up golf at age 80, he enjoyed daily walks around Beus Pond.

Surviving are his wife, Neta; daughter, Sheryl (Brad) Larsen; and son, Jeff (Jana) Daily. He has four beloved grandchildren, Jed (Jessica) Larsen of Dallas, Texas; Kirt Larsen, Jenna Daily, Hayden Daily; and one sister, Nita Kentopp, Bristol, Maine. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two half-brothers, Larry W. Birrer; and James A. Daily Jr.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at Garden of Peace, Lindquist's Washington Heights Memorial Park at 4500 Washington Blvd. The family will meet with friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., prior to the services.
