Dean Mortenson

Dean Mortenson, 93, of Bountiful, Utah, passed away due to natural causes on Wednesday, January 22nd, 2025.

 Dean was born to Laural and Lavera Mortenson on the 28th of May, 1931, in Morgan Utah. In 1950, he joined the US Navy and honorably served 20 years of active duty, retiring on July 7th, 1970, at the Rank of Yeoman 1st class (E-6). Dean met the love of his life, Kazue Tadokoro, while stationed in Japan, and they were married on March 5th, 1956 in Tokyo. 

Dean was, above all, a man who loved and appreciated his family. He was strength, compassion, and sincerity. A resilient foundation in the turbulent sea of life. He was a man eager to help others, yet a man who never easily accepted help for himself. Dean knew when a bit of humor was required to lighten up a somber moment. He kept the cupboard stocked with the good cereal for the grandkids, and taught them the joys and frustrations of routine yard work. He was dedicated to his church and community. Dean showed us how to endure through loss and heartbreak without losing ourselves to resentment or anger.

Dean is survived by his daughters Angela and Rosanna; 4 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Dean was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Ray and Jay, his sons Norman and Jeffry, his grandson Nathan, and his wife Kazue. 

 Thanks the members of the 34th ward and everyone who supported Dean. Our family will forever be grateful for the generosity, companionship and care this community provided. 

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 30th, 2025 at the Lakeview Memorial Cemetery, 1640 East, Lakeview Drive, Bountiful, Utah. A visitation will be held prior to graveside services from 9:30-10:30 am at Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E.
