DeAnn Morgan

November 25, 1963 — February 1, 2020

DeAnn Morgan

On Saturday, February 1st, DeAnn Morgan completed her mortal journey and returned to the loving embrace of her Heavenly Father.  If courage and faith alone could sustain life, she would still be with us; but after more than twelve years of struggle against a fatal condition, she was finally released from pain and suffering.  Words cannot express the depth of our loss, and we are left trembling at the prospect of a future without her.

DeAnn was born November 25th 1963 in Vernal, Utah, to Owen and Claire Speirs.  As the third of six children, she was always surrounded by love in a busy household.  She cared deeply for her parents and siblings. Her giving spirit and fun sense of humor brightened the life of all those around her.

DeAnn’s greatest desire in life was to be a wife and mother, and her gift of nurturing and caring for others was demonstrated early in her life when she could often be seen following in the wake of her three younger brothers picking up and putting away their messes as quickly as they could make them. While living in Vernal she was able to begin her Dream Job when she gave birth to her two oldest children, Brandon and Dustin. This began a lifetime of devoted motherhood.

In 1986, DeAnn moved to Kaysville, Utah, to pursue her collegiate studies. It was then that she was blessed to meet Jeff Morgan, the love of her life and eternal companion who would become the father of her four children as Dillon and Brooklyn were eventually added to the family.

Much of her adulthood was spent working as an administrative assistant. In true DeAnn fashion, the role she played in life was that of making everything run smoothly for others, bearing their burdens and performing the work to make life easier and better for everyone else.

DeAnn was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a powerful testimony of her Savior.  She served faithfully in many church callings and had an enduring impact on the lives of many young women through serving in those organizations.  Her strength inspired and lifted the members of her LDS Ward, and she had the great ability of making everyone she came in contact with feel loved and valued.

DeAnn kept a beautiful home and yard and when the weather was nice could often be found working in her flower beds fighting the never-ending battle with weeds and helping Jeff tend their vegetable garden.  Even when she didn’t feel particularly well, if the sun was out and a weed needed pulling, she would do it.

Her joys in life were traveling with her sweetheart Jeff, working in her garden, playing pickleball with friends, and scoring the occasional hole-in-one at golf to make her husband jealous. Her greatest joy however, could be found in spending time with her many loved ones, including her parents, siblings, husband, children, and eight grandchildren who she spoiled and loved every chance she could.

In 2008 she was diagnosed with the rare blood disorder, Myeloprolific Active Disorder. This was the beginning of another courageous chapter of her life. Through the many struggles that followed, she taught others what it means to maintain courage in the face of adversity and triumph over hardships.

Most of those we have lost are remembered by the funny stories we’ve shared about them or the grand adventures and experiences they’ve had. What made DeAnn special was that her life wasn’t about being in the spotlight or doing things that would garner attention. DeAnn always derived joy by being supportive and encouraging of others. She would always prefer to quietly work behind the scenes as your #1 fan and ally. Our endeavors were her endeavors, and our successes were her successes. She spent her life quietly in service of others without seeking or wanting recognition for her many acts of love, kindness and charity. She would even likely be uncomfortable with us making these kind remarks about her right now.

DeAnn was a private person who usually knew more about those around her than they knew about her. She never wanted to burden anyone else with her challenges and struggles. As we remember DeAnn, we are flooded with memories. Words she said to us. Deeds she did for us. Unknown prayers she offered for us. For us. Perhaps those two short words best capture the effect of this woman on our lives. For us. A life cannot be captured just in words, or just in memories, but many of our memories are of what she did For us.

DeAnn was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend.  Her passing will leave a giant hole in the hearts of everyone who knew her.  Her courage, strength and faith through the struggles of life inspired and taught us all how be better.  Our lives will be much less bright without DeAnn in it, and she will be dearly missed.  Her family and friends ache with her loss and our memories of DeAnn will echo in our hearts until we are reunited with her once more.
