It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Debie Gilbert Wong, born April 21, 1961, in Ogden, Utah, to Lois Geiger Gilbert and Frank Roy Gilbert. She peacefully left us on April 22, 2025, after a long journey with complex health challenges. She passed surrounded by love in the comfort of her home.
Debie grew up in Ogden, attending Ogden City schools, graduating from Ogden High School, and earning a Bachelor of Arts in English from Weber State University. She excelled as a technical writer at Bard Access Systems (now BD), where she worked for over 25 years and received multiple awards and accolades. In her spare time, she was an avid reader who especially loved Dean Koontz novels.
On August 5, 1994, she married her husband, Malamene Wong, and they were sealed in the South Jordan LDS Temple. She was a proud mother to two children and one beloved baby in heaven. Debie loved to travel with her family, especially to favorite spots like Depoe Bay, Oregon, and Victoria, Canada. She also loved creating beauty at home, designing their family home in 2006 and delighting the neighborhood with her holiday decorations, particularly at Halloween and Christmas, which became well-known in the community, often prompting neighbors and strangers alike to pause and admire the work.
Debie possessed a strong intellect, admired by many - especially her husband. Her analytical skills and sharp memory allowed her to reason through any problem with ease. She had a remarkable knack for recalling details; as a movie lover, she could watch a film once and not only name every actor but list half their filmographies from memory. She also somehow always knew exactly where her kids needed to be and when - no calendar needed. Her dry humor and quick comebacks often left people laughing until their stomachs hurt. And even with her busy mind, she never missed a soccer game, music concert, or dance recital.
Debie’s unwavering love touched everyone who had the privilege to know her. Her life was marked by deep devotion to her family and friends, loyalty to those she cared about, and a sharp wit that endeared her to everyone she met. Her memory will be treasured in the hearts of all who knew her, and we trust that she is now in the loving embrace of her Heavenly Father.
Debie is survived by her husband, Malamene Wong; her children, Emily (Zayna) Wong and Peyton (Brian) Wong; stepchildren, Chantell (Miguel) Miranda, William Wong, and Theresa Wong; and her brother, Carl L. (Diane) Gilbert. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Erick Wong; and her siblings Dean F. (Marian) Gilbert, Cathy Biddle, Vicky (Roy) Nelson, Marsha (Dale) Bowman, and Darrel (Marlene) Gilbert.
