Dee Garth Gibson Dee “Garth” Gibson 71, passed away Monday February 17th, 2020 at his home.
He was born May 3rd, 1948 in Ogden Utah. The third son of Clyde and Madge Gibson.
Garth graduated from Roy High School in 1966. He was drafted and served his country in Vietnam, receiving a Purple Heart after being wounded in combat.
Upon returning home he married his high school sweetheart, Stephanie Van Dame on April 15th, 1970 in the Salt Lake City temple. They moved to Hooper and raised their family there. He later joined the Army Reserves and served his country for another 20 years.
He worked for Ogden City as a Surveyor until his retirement.
One of his greatest accomplishment later in his life was to serve as the Commander of the Utah Chapter of the Military Order of the Purple Heart and held this position at the time of his passing.
He is survived by his four children, Melissa Gibson of Roy, UT; Van Gibson (Kendra), Olathe, KS; Joshua Gibson (Mackenzie), Oklahoma City, OK; Matthew Gibson, Roy, UT; six grandchildren, Taylor (Makenzie), Madelyn, Aspen, Dakota, Claire and Wyatt; one great grandson, Hadley, 13 nieces and nephews, and his oldest brother, Brent (Sherry). He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Richard, and his beloved wife Stephanie.
A viewing will be held Sunday, February 23rd, 2020 from 6 to 8 pm and Monday morning February 24th between 9:30 and 10:30 am at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South Roy, Utah. Followed by a graveside service at 11 am at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Boulevard.
In lieu of flowers, Garth and the family request to make donations to the Folds of Honor, (Folds of Honor, Department #13, Tulsa, OK 74182), foldsofhonor.org. Or to the Veterans Organization of your choice.
